PURPOSE OF JOB

  • To be responsible for the day to day leadership and delivery of a high quality care service focussed on individual needs and outcomes in line with National Care Standards and the Policies and Procedures of the company and current best practice.

 MAJOR TASKS 

  • To provide leadership to the wider care team ensuring all clinical and social care needs of individual residents is planned, delivered and provided in line with explicit values; dignity, respect, choice, personalised and meaningful.
  • To supervise the practice standards of care staff, providing support, guidance and direction.  Taking corrective action as needed.
  • To ensure service delivery is well organised, priorities are being met and deployment of staff are to the benefit of the residents.
  • To work with other professionals in the delivery of high quality care to the residents in your care, ensuring best outcomes for the residents.
  • To take on champion roles to the benefit of the service and take limited delegated authority for the management of some aspects of the home in the absence of the Manager / Depute and clinical lead. 

RESPONSIBLE FOR:  

  • The leadership of care staff to ensure high quality care and support, providing all clinical and nursing tasks, shift planning and overview of all aspects of the day to day service delivery. 

 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:  

  • This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by the company.  
  • The functions of this post requires the post holder to be registered as a staff nurse with a valid NMC number on commencement of employment.  

EMPLOYEE SPECIFICATION:  

  • Must be confident in leadership, capable of taking action and supportive of others to ensure continual improvements in service delivery.  The post holder must be able to practice as a clinical nurse and as a social care leader.

EXPERIENCE 

  • Substantial experience working with older people and delivering clinical care
  • Experience of working with older people with dementia and the supports they will require and how to lead this into practice
  • Experience of working with Health Care Professionals  
  • Responding to and providing advice and guidance to staff, residents and relatives in a sensitive and personalised way
  • Customer care and supporting people that maybe anxious and or distressed 
  • Planning and organising own and others workload effectively    
  • Experience of the Care Home setting, including knowledge and an understanding of the diverse issues and needs of people who live and work there
  • Prevention of hospital admission and working with individuals, family members and the GP to anticipate the care needs and preferences of individuals  

 KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS 

  • Clinical skills as a registered nurse:  enteric tube feeding, catheterisation (male, female, suprapubic), diabetes support, pressure care, subcutaneous fluids, syringe drivers, continence care, skin care, basic first aid and relevant competencies as a nurse.
  • Analytical skills
  • Organisational skills 
  • Ability to work on own initiative
  • Time management and ability to support others with priorities
  • Written and oral communication (reports, statistics) able to use ICT in practical solutions
  • Dealing with emergencies and complex Issues 
  • Ability to use IT skills (Word; Excel and E-mail)  
  • An understanding of the  National Care standards  
  • Ability to interpret or gain knowledge of changes in policy and legislation
  • Knowledge of complaints procedure, customer care procedures
  • Knowledge of Protection of Vulnerable Groups legislation 

 QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS 

  • Must hold NMC registration, could be general Nurse, mental health Nurse, other.
  • A supervisory qualification is desirable.
